I chose to work in a skilled trade because I want to be more active than just sitting in an office. I have always had a passion for machines and mechanics and I want to build a career in that field. My ambition is to start my own business with a mobile diesel mechanics unit to repair different machines on site.
I heard about the skills competitions at my training centre and decided to find out more. When I learned that there was not only a Skills Canada National Competition but also a WorldSkills Competition, I knew that I wanted to be part of this great adventure.
The person who has inspired me the most is my father. I have learned so much from him. When I was growing up, I spent a lot of time working with him and asking lots of questions. My father always took time to explain things to me and I truly believe his advice has helped me get to where I am today.
In heavy equipment service, one of the Essential Skills is working with others. Communicating and helping one another can greatly improve the quality of team work and help to avoid mistakes.
