My Skills Background<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m a Chef and an educator for the Faculty of Culinary Apprenticeship at the Nova Scotia Community College. My focus is the Cook Apprenticeship program. I love the interactive connections between the college and the apprentices. I\u2019ve been the Expert in my Skill Area since WorldSkills Kazan 2019.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Importance of Training<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mental training is as important as the technical training for the WorldSkills Competition. My role is to work with the competitor and their primary trainer. My skill lies in interpreting the projects and CIS for measurement scores, and incorporating that into the practice schedules.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As we prepare, our main challenges will be to build mental and physical stamina. We must also learn to adapt throughout the competition. We\u2019ll succeed at WorldSkills Lyon 2024 if we can leave the competition feeling that we achieved everything we could. If our efforts result in a medal, that is even better!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the WorldSkills Competition, I\u2019m<\/span> most looking forward to connecting with the other Experts, and seeing the competitors perform at their peak.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Value of the Skills for Success<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

During training and at the competition, our competitor will need to use the Skills for Success of Problem Solving and Adaptability. Overall, I hope this experience enables our competitor to improve their skills and resilience, and also boost their self-confidence!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why I Love Volunteering<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Unlike many other competitions I’ve been involved in over the years, skills competitions are really about the competitor \u2013 more so than their sponsors, employers, or even their country.
