My Skills Background<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m a trained fashion and clothing designer. This profession has fascinated me for more than 35 years. I have been an Expert in my Skill Area since 1998.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Importance of Training<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When I train a competitor, I encourage them to do simulation tests. What’s more, I often put them in front of an audience. I use the CIS grid to evaluate the competitor, and I also ask them to do a self-evaluation. I encourage them to absorb the evaluation criteria and use it to guide them during the competition. Success is not necessarily a podium finish. To me, success is seeing the competitor compete with a positive attitude and deliver a top performance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While preparing for the competition, we forget about the fatigue and the frantic pace of the actual competition. Onsite in the host country, we never have much time to recharge our batteries. Our big challenge will be to teach our young people important rest, recovery and nutrition strategies.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

At the 47th WorldSkills Competition, I look forward to the incredible knowledge sharing between the member countries.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Value of the Skills for Success<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Without a doubt, Adaptability will be the most important Skill for Success at the competition. Unforeseen events always occur. Competitors must be resilient, accept challenges and adapt to changes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I want my competitor to understand that she will be playing the key role on the Expert-Coach-Competitor team. We are there to support her, but she must be motivated and want to succeed!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why I Love Volunteering<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I love volunteering for Skills\/Comp\u00e9tences Canada and WorldSkills because they change the lives of our young people. Sharing knowledge is the best way to ensure the future of our next generation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
