In honour of National Volunteer Week, Skills\/Comp\u00e9tences Canada (SCC) proudly celebrates the dedicated volunteers who make a lasting impact on the lives of youth and help grow the Skills movement across the country. Many of these individuals have contributed years\u2014sometimes even decades\u2014of their time, passion, and expertise to strengthening the Skills community.<\/p>\n

So, what keeps them coming back?<\/em><\/p>\n

Time and again, volunteers share a common motivation: a deep connection to the Skills community and a desire to inspire the next generation to explore careers in the skilled trades and technologies. For many, their journey began as Competitors. Today, they give back as Experts, Trainers, or National Technical Committee Members, passing on their knowledge and experience to those following in their footsteps.<\/p>\n

Others stay involved through initiatives like the National Alumni Committee or the Skills for Success Youth Assembly, where they continue to share their stories and advocate for skilled trade pathways. Some even go on to support WorldSkills Team Canada, mentoring and guiding competitors as they represent the country on the international stage.<\/p>\n

Behind the scenes, hundreds of volunteers\u2014including more than 50 key volunteers\u2014play a vital role in ensuring the success of SCC events. From supporting the National Secretariat with setup and teardown, to managing registration, capturing social media content, and assisting with media interviews, their dedication and energy help create memorable experiences. Their efforts not only power the Skills Canada National Competition but also help keep the entire Skills community connected and thriving.<\/p>\n
