Students across Canada will participate in round two of the Let\u2019s Talk Careers Competition to learn about\u00a0\u00a0career possibilities in STEM and the skilled trades and technologies.<\/em><\/p>\n

Ottawa, ON,\u00a0April 12,\u00a02021\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Skills\/Comp\u00e9tences Canada\u00a0has\u00a0partnered\u00a0with\u00a0Let\u2019s Talk Science<\/a>\u00a0to offer an exciting opportunity to engage students in career discovery and exploration.\u00a0Schools and students\u00a0across Canada\u00a0will have the chance to\u00a0earn while they learn by participating in\u00a0round\u00a0two of the Let\u2019s Talk Careers Competition, taking place from April 12 to May\u00a021, 2021,\u00a0on the\u00a0ChatterHigh<\/a>\u00a0platform.<\/p>\n

Students\u00a0 across\u00a0the\u00a0country\u00a0will have the opportunity to answer a 10 question quiz each day to earn points towards their personal leaderboards and for their school. These quizzes allow them to explore thousands of career options that they may not have been exposed to\u00a0and also\u00a0the opportunity to\u00a0win prizes and bursaries.<\/p>\n

The Let\u2019s Talk Careers Competition engages\u00a0students in career discovery\u00a0by\u00a0engaging\u00a0them\u00a0in exploring\u00a0existing and emergent careers\u00a0in skilled trades, technologies and STEM\u00a0(science, technology, engineering and mathematics).\u00a0While\u00a0participating in this competition,\u00a0students\u00a0learn about\u00a0career and post-secondary options available to them\u00a0by\u00a0matching\u00a0their passions and interests to post-secondary programs or directing\u00a0them\u00a0to work options.\u00a0It\u2019s free and easy for all Canadian schools to get involved.\u00a0Learn more\u00a0about this competition<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0launch\u00a0your\u00a0students\u2019\u00a0career exploration journey.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving the students perform at this level tells us that they like it, they enjoy it\u2026 they\u2019re the ones that are expressing interest and the\u00a0[good]\u00a0performance is because they are taking ownership in their own learning,\u201d\u00a0Michael\u00a0Pearson,\u00a0district principal from a participating school\u00a0in the first round.<\/p>\n

The first round of the Let\u2019s Talk Careers Competition was held from October 26 to December 4, 2020 with\u00a0nearly 6,000 participants from 200 schools across Canada who explored over 444,916 career and post-secondary\u202fpathways,\u00a0and\u202fearned\u00a0over $25,000 in cash prizes.\u00a0See\u00a0the\u00a0results\u00a0of round one<\/a>\u00a0including video testimonials and interviews with previous participants.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe demand for skilled tradespeople is expected to remain\u00a0strong\u00a0across Canada, and\u00a0skilled trades and technologies\u00a0provide excellent\u00a0career\u00a0pathways for youth. The\u00a0Let\u2019s\u00a0Talk\u00a0Careers\u00a0Competition is a great way to\u00a0engage\u00a0and inform\u00a0our future\u00a0skilled\u00a0workforce\u00a0on the\u00a0incredible\u00a0career\u00a0opportunities\u00a0that are available to them\u201d, said Shaun Thorson, CEO of Skills\/Comp\u00e9tences\u00a0Canada.<\/p>\n
