Ottawa, ON, June 17, 2021 \u2013 Skills\/Comp\u00e9tences Canada (SCC) is pleased to share that it will provide career awareness to youth in underrepresented communities through researched and tailored skilled trade and apprenticeship career orientation activities, thanks to a donation from the\u00a0RBC Foundation<\/a>\u00a0as part of\u00a0RBC Future Launch<\/a>. This will include in-school presentations, online career orientation and inclusive events on skilled trade occupations and the Canadian apprenticeship system. These programs will provide experiential learning with the goal of leading them to full time employment.<\/p>\n

This\u00a0impactful\u00a0program\u00a0will\u00a0allow Skills Canada to\u00a0expand\u00a0its\u00a0reach\u00a0to\u00a0youth\u00a0by\u00a0implementing a phased approach\u00a0which\u00a0will include\u00a0the following four components:\u00a0Community\/Sector Research,\u00a0Career Orientation,\u00a0Experiential Activities and\u00a0Work Placement with SCC industry partners.\u00a0Through this partnership, Skills Canada and its\u00a0provincial\/territorial\u00a0Member Organizations across the country will leverage activities to\u00a0increase\u00a0diversity and inclusion\u00a0in the skilled trades and technologies.<\/p>\n

RBC Future Launch\u00a0is a 10-year, $500 million commitment to empower Canadian youth for the jobs of tomorrow. With a focus on networking, skills development, practical work experience and mental well-being supports and services, the initiative aims to help break down the barriers facing young people. In 2020, RBC committed to providing $50 million in focused funding through RBC Future Launch to create meaningful and transformative pathways to prosperity for up to 25,000 BIPOC\u00a0(Black, Indigenous and\u00a0People of\u00a0Colour)\u00a0youth by 2025, with investments in areas such as skills development and mentoring.<\/p>\n
