My Skills Background
I’m a freelance graphic designer and full-time graphic communications instructor. I’m passionate about empowering students and emerging designers to solve problems through design. I became involved with Skills/Compétences Canada almost a decade ago, first as a competitor, then as a Trainer. Since 2018, I’ve served on the Provincial Technical Committee, training multiple competitors.

Training Champions
The experience I had with my Trainer as a competitor at the WorldSkills Competition 2017 profoundly influenced me. That type of mentorship can shape someone’s path, and I care deeply about giving back as a Trainer. With my competitor, I’ll create a strong relationship built on trust. I want her to know she can ask questions, make mistakes and talk openly. From there, we’ll build a plan that’s focused and personalized to her.

If my competitor feels prepared, confident and supported going into the competition, we will have succeeded. Whatever the result, growth occurs throughout this entire journey and personal development is what matters most. I want them to feel proud of their achievement!

Why I Love Volunteering
I simply love being part of Skills. It keeps me learning, pushes me to grow as an educator, and allows me to give back to a community that means the world to me. I’m especially lucky to be training one of my former students as we’ve built a solid working relationship over the years. I believe she chose me as her trainer because she trusts me and appreciates that I bring my own experience.
