My Skills Journey
I competed in my Skill Area of Heavy Vehicle Technology at the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) 2024, in Québec City where I won the silver medal. It was an amazing opportunity to showcase the skills that I’ve acquired through years of hard work. It was also an excellent networking tool that enabled me to meet and learn from others in the trades.
Joining the National Alumni Committee (NAC)
I decided to join the NAC because I truly enjoyed the competitions and being involved in such a vital and ever-growing movement in our country. I want to help expand the outreach of the Skills competitions and events to the younger generation. I’m also looking forward to educating young people about the endless opportunities that are available to them if they choose to pursue careers in the skilled trades.
Overcoming Career Barriers
I started a new trade after working in another field for about 10 years. That was a challenge. I had to start from the bottom again and go through the required schooling and training while also helping to raise a young family at home. It’s been difficult at times, but the expansion of knowledge and experience that comes with a dual license has opened a lot of doors for me career-wise.
Proudest Moment
My proudest moment occurred when I competed at SCNC Québec 2024, representing my province, and bringing home the silver medal.
