Amy Pike - 21

Biography
I always had an interest in hairstyling from a young age. Seeing my family excel in a career in trades pushed me to go for it myself. My career goal is to open up my own barbershop.  

My biggest inspiration is Eugene Souleiman. His work has always inspired me to push myself and think outside the box. 

I got involved in the skills competitions because my instructor in school pushed me to do it. The Skills Canada National Competition has had a huge impact on the way I view myself as a hairstylist/barber. It has given me a sense of confidence that I didn’t have before. I am proud to show my work to anybody and everybody, and no challenge is too big of a challenge for me now. 

Interesting Fact  

I have 16 pets.  

Skills for Success

In my training and during the competition, creativity and innovation were instrumental to my success. I was able to think outside the box and put my own creativity on my projects to stand out from the rest. This is very important in our industry, and I was able to utilize this skill with every project I did. 

Everyday problems present themselves and being able to work through them and think on your feet is huge. I use problem-solving with every head of hair that I touch.
