Jonathan Muryn - 19

Biography

Even at a young age, I was interested in computers. When I was 12, I took my computer apart to see if I could understand how it operates but when I put it back together it wouldn’t work. I realized then that computers are much more complicated than I imagined. My passion for computers has continued to grow. My dream is to have my own computer business, working with networks, virtualization and network protection.

While I was at the Riverains Training Centre, I went to a presentation given by Collège de Rosemont. One of the presenters was Kevin Dubois, who spoke about how he got involved in the Skills Competitions. At that time, he was training to compete in network systems administration at WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017. When I got home that night, I told my mother that I wanted to be like Kevin and take part in the WorldSkills Competition.

Interesting Fact

In my last year of high school, I hacked into my school network and found some confidential information, like social insurance numbers and passwords for the school servers. I decided to write to my director to point out the need for data protection. That’s what I like about data processing. When I have my own business, I don’t want anyone to hack into my system so easily.

Essential Skills

Digital skills and thinking are important in competitions. I try to think how I can do the same task as others but more quickly. It’s a way to find solutions that gives me an advantage.
