Strong Performance for Team Canada at WorldSkills São Paulo 2015

WorldSkills Team Canada 2015 awarded with 5 Medals and 10 Medallions of Excellence

Ottawa, ON – August 17th, 2015Skills/Compétences Canada, a national not-for-profit organization that actively promotes careers in skilled trades, today announced that Team Canada has been presented with 5 Medals (2 Silver and 3 Bronze) as well as 10 Medallions for Excellence at WorldSkills São Paulo 2015. Canada’s Best of Nation Award was presented to Sébastien Rémillard from Quebec City for his performance in Cooking. The complete list of the medals and recognition presented to Team Canada for their performance at WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 is provided below and posted online at skillscompetencescanada.com.

WorldSkills is the largest international competition of its kind, showcasing the best in skilled trades and technologies training. The event occurs every two years and provides a unique means of exchange and comparison of world-class competency standards in the industrial trades and service sectors of the global economy. The competitors are selected from WorldSkills’ Member countries and regions and represent the best of their peers. Skills Canada is the Canadian Member organization of WorldSkills International.

WorldSkills Team Canada 2015 is made up of 29 young skills champions from across the country. This talented group participated in 27 out of 50 team and/or individual skill areas relating to trades, technologies, and service-oriented careers. About WorldSkills São Paulo 2015

WorldSkills São Paulo 2015 represents the largest in the 65-year history of WorldSkills with 1,189 registered Competitors from 59 WorldSkills Member countries and regions. This year’s event, which took place from August 11 – 16, 2015 at Anhembi Park, in São Paulo, Brazil, recorded 1,144 registered experts, 301 registered interpreters and 800 volunteers. As many as 200,000 spectators, public policymakers, employers, teachers, trainers, technical experts and government officials from around the world attended. The next WorldSkills Competition is scheduled to take place from October 14 – 19, 2017 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
