Biography

I chose to go into the skilled trades as it provides hands on training and experience that can easily be transferred into the workplace. I feel that having solid first-hand experience is critical for success in any industry. I decided to go into mechatronics as I am extremely passionate about the use of technology to improve our society. Mechatronics provides a backbone for technology as it integrates software, hardware, electronics, and control systems, which is crucial to technology design and operation.

I got involved with skills competitions through my program coordinator who had started a team for mechatronics and was looking for competitors to train for the upcoming competition. After meeting the mentors, learning about what they were doing and how that has reflected on their careers, I gave it my all to win the Skills Canada National Competition and hopefully progress to WorldSkills Kazan 2019.

Interesting Fact

I work for a YouTuber that goes by the name “the Hacksmith”, and we take fictional ideas from comic books, video games, and movies and make real prototypes. We develop technologies such as exoskeletons, laser rifles, spy cars, and jetpacks for entertainment while narrowing the gap between fiction and reality.

Essential Skills

I believe all skills are essential in such a competitive economy, however I believe that continuous learning, and the ability to master new skills, techniques, and understand new technology is absolutely crucial. In such a rapidly changing world, it is extremely important to be able to keep up with the changes and adapt to new challenges.
