Embarking on My Skills Adventure
My journey with Skills competitions began in 2000, when one of my teachers—who was also a Skills Expert—first introduced me to this exciting world. He knew first-hand how transformative these competitions could be, and his enthusiasm was contagious.
That same year, I decided to give it a shot. I competed in my very first Skills competition, winning gold at the Olympiades québécoises des métiers et des technologies, in Industrial Control, and earning a spot at the Skills Canada National Competition 2000, in Québec City. There, I struck gold again—an unforgettable moment that opened the door to representing Canada at the WorldSkills Competition 2001, in Seoul, Korea.
From Skills Competitor to WorldSkills Expert
From the start, I was hooked. The adrenaline, the camaraderie, the chance to push my skills to the limit—I loved it all. I knew I wanted to stay connected to the Skills community. Between 2004 and 2008, I served as a Judge at the Olympiades québécoises. In 2008, I stepped into the role of Workshop Manager, then became an Expert in 2010. The following year, I joined the National Technical Committee, helping design projects for the Skills Canada National Competition. And in 2024, my journey came full circle when I became a WorldSkills Expert, representing Canada at the WorldSkills Competition 2024, in Lyon, France. As an Expert, my mission is to ensure my competitor’s experience is both meaningful and high-performing. I’m passionate about analyzing the WorldSkills scoring methods and using that insight to raise our game for the future.
My Son Joins the Adventure
One of the proudest moments of my Skills journey came when my son, Samuel Beaumier—who’s studying in the same trade as me—was invited to compete. In 2025, he represented Québec at the Skills Canada National Competition, in Regina, with me as his Expert. Not only was it incredible to guide him through this adventure, but it also strengthened our bond in ways I’ll never forget. Samuel thrived under the pressure, delivering an outstanding performance and winning the silver medal!
And Now…
Today, I’m the Vice-president – Technology & Branch manager – Lachine, for Régulvar, a building automation integrator. My work focuses on developing greener, smarter, and more efficient buildings—another way I get to make a lasting impact. From my first Skills competition in 2000 to mentoring the next generation of competitors, including my own son, this Skills journey has shaped not just my career, but my life. And the adventure is far from over.
