Alex Edwards
My Skills Background
I was a competitor for Team Newfoundland & Labrador at the Skills Canada National Competition 2023, in Winnipeg, MB, as well as a WorldSkills Team Canada competitor at the WorldSkills Competition, 2024 in Lyon, France, in Cloud Computing. I became a trainer for the Skills Canada National Competition 2025, in Regina in that same Skill Area and my competitor won first place securing his spot as part of WorldSkills Team Canada 2026.
I currently work in Cybersecurity, but my interest in computers and networking began at a young age. The idea of working in a specialized field where I could help secure networks and systems has always appealed to me. When my local college introduced a bachelor’s program in Cybersecurity, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to pursue my passion, so I enrolled.
Training Champions
My approach to training a competitor for the WorldSkills Competition is simple – provide him with the resources he needs and with enough knowledge so that he is prepared and ready to take on any challenge. Success is not only about the final result; it’s about the understanding and expertise gained throughout the competition. Participating in these types of competitions gives competitors a chance to learn outside of the classroom in a truly unique environment. I hope my competitor gains even deeper knowledge of cybersecurity and a profound passion for this specialized career path.
Why I Love Volunteering
When I was asked to be a Trainer for WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, I couldn’t say yes fast enough! Having firsthand experience myself, it feels like an exciting and natural next chapter in my journey.
