My Skills Background
I own a machine shop and a manufacturing consulting business. I’m passionate about combining hands-on work with computers and automation while efficiently producing a tangible product. This will be my second WorldSkills Competition as an Expert in my Skill Area.
The Importance of Training
The competitor should train for five to 10 hours per week, incorporating both intensive and slower paced training sessions. I provide a combination of programmed training components, hands-on machine setup training and practice competitions.
Success for me as a WorldSkills Expert will be knowing that I’ve trained my competitor to feel prepared and relaxed during the competition. Our biggest challenge will be training at a distance.
The Value of the Skills for Success
Problem Solving is a key component for this category. The competitor must be organized, use good time management and apply best practices to effectively program the test project, then physically set up the machine to produce the product.
Why I Love Volunteering
I volunteer at the WorldSkills Competition because manufacturing is a critical industry that stimulates economic prosperity. I believe that experienced tradespeople should share their knowledge to keep the industry strong. I have learned from knowledgeable people during my career, so now I want to mentor others and pay it forward.
