My Skills Background

I’m a refrigeration instructor. It’s a constantly evolving profession and I find it rewarding to see students develop skills for their future careers. I’ve participated in many WorldSkills Competitions as an Expert, and once as a Deputy Chief Expert.

The Importance of Training

A competitor should train for as many hours as possible for a WorldSkills Competition. Specifically, they need to master precision and speed. Mentally, they must learn to overcome obstacles. I collaborate with the competitor and their Trainer to establish specific training goals, such as using good time management to complete an orderly, quality job.

WorldSkills Team Canada competitors will be challenged by performance-related stress, physical and mental fatigue and the presence of a large audience. They must remain focused. That said, I aim to ensure that my competitor’s experience is an enriching and motivating adventure. A podium finish would be a bonus!

As an Expert, success for me in Shanghai relies on compliance with WorldSkills standards and practices.

The Value of the Skills for Success

The vital Skills for Success during training and competition are Communication and Adaptability. Communication puts the team on the same page. Adaptability enables you to quickly cope with unexpected glitches.

Why I Love Volunteering

I volunteer because it’s rewarding. I’m motivated by seeing young people progress and gain confidence. I also really enjoy meeting other Experts in my field. It’s this passion for sharing and developing talent that commits me to the Skills movement.
