Eric Wu
Biography
I became interested in trades as a career after realizing how much I enjoyed hands-on work in my high school shop class. I especially enjoy wiring and troubleshooting. As a result, I took the Electrical Foundations program that my school offers for Grade 12 students. My career goal is to get my Red Seal endorsement as an Industrial Electrician.
I was asked to compete in Skills competitions after I finished my Foundations course. I was fortunate to win a gold medal at the Skills Canada National Competitions in 2024 and in 2025. All my preparation and practice must have paid off! I was very excited to learn that I’ll be competing at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026. I think my biggest challenge while I’m there will be trying to manage my stress. That will help me complete my project to the best of my ability. I’m also looking forward to meeting the other competitors.
Interesting Fact
I enjoy reading and watching TV shows.
Skills for Success
Problem Solving has always been important to my success because when I encounter a problem, I don’t immediately see its root cause. I take time to think about which parts may be causing complications, and then I use a multimeter to help me troubleshoot and find solutions.
