My Skills Background
I’m a Welding instructor at Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP). Instructing gives me the opportunity to help young apprentices grow to their full potential in their chosen career. I’ve been a Skills Trainer for both secondary and post-secondary Welding students. I’m also an active member of the Provincial Technical Committee. I’m proud to say that Welding apprentices from RDP have won gold medals at the Skills Canada National Competitions in six of the past seven years.
Training Champions
I decided to become a Trainer for our WorldSkills Team Canada competitor because I love helping young tradespeople maximize their abilities. My approach to training is simple: to provide meaningful guidance that enhances their skills, improves their focus and concentration, and helps them learn how to manage time effectively.
I’ll feel that we’ve achieved success at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 if our competitor places among the top five competitors or wins a bronze medal or better. I hope our competitor feels thankful to get this international experience and is willing to give back to others in his trade in the future.
Why I Love Volunteering
I’m grateful for this volunteering opportunity that enables me to connect with other Trainers and Experts in my field, to continue my quest for lifelong learning and to help showcase Canada’s excellence in Welding. I work well with our competitor. I believe he chose me as his WorldSkills Trainer because he trusts that I have his best interests at heart and will strengthen his skills knowledge with meaningful training.
