My Skills Background
I’ve been a carpentry instructor at NAIT for 17 years. One of the best parts of my job is watching students grow and becoming capable tradespeople. Seeing them overcome challenges, creating something with their own hands, and feeling proud of what they’ve accomplished is incredibly rewarding. Knowing I get to play a part in their journey is what keeps me passionate about teaching. This will be my first year as an Expert.

The Importance of Training
I’ve seen how consistent preparation can transform performance. Competitors should aim for 15 to 25 hours of training per week. Physically, it’s about building stamina and efficiency to sustain quality work over several days. Mentally, it’s learning to stay calm under pressure, adapt quickly, and maintain focus. With the right balance of physical and mental preparation, competitors can walk into the competition feeling confident, ready, and capable of performing at their best.

For me, the WorldSkills Competition is a success if the competitor feels fully prepared and can perform at their very best. Of course, reaching the podium or earning the Medallion for Excellence would be an incredible achievement, but regardless, the lessons they gain will stay with them for the rest of their life.

The Value of the Skills for Success

We will work on all the Skills for Success, with a particular focus on Numeracy, to strengthen the competitor’s math skills and ensure they are well-prepared.

Why I Love Volunteering
I volunteer because I’ve always had a true passion and love for the trade. Ther best part is passing on my knowledge to the future skilled generation.
