My Skills Background
I’ve been retired since 2006, but before that I worked as a refrigeration teacher and technician. Since 2007, I’ve been involved in Skills competitions as a Trainer at the local, provincial, and national levels. When I first started teaching, my school asked me to select and coach a student for the competition. At the time, I had never even heard of Skills competitions, but I accepted the challenge, really enjoyed the experience, and have been involved ever since.
Training Champions
My training approach combines both theory and hands-on practice. What matters most is not only knowing how to do the work but also understanding why it’s done that way. I also focus on the mental side of training, including time management, stress management, and breathing techniques to help competitors stay calm under pressure.
Why I Love Volunteering
The most rewarding part of volunteering with Skills is seeing the satisfaction and pride on my competitor’s face after a job well done. I believe this experience will be unforgettable for him and something he will carry with him for the rest of his life.
