My Skills Background
I’m an instructor at SAIT and a proud Red Seal Journeyperson Machinist. I love teaching and really enjoy seeing the “lightbulb moment” when students finally grasp the topic on which they’ve been working. I’ve long been connected to Skills/Compétences Canada: As a competitor in Precision Machining at the Skills Canada National Competition 2016, and as a member of the Provincial Technical Committee (PTC) for Machining.

Training Champions
It was a natural progression for me to become the Trainer for our competitor at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026. I’m not only on the PTC for Machining, I also coach the SAIT competitors who participate in provincial and national competitions for CNC Machining. To prepare our competitor for the WorldSkills Competition, I plan to place them in numerous mock competitions so they can become familiar with the pressures of competing.

Our training will prove successful if our competitor is able to accomplish the goals he’s set for himself. I want him to feel proud of what he’s achieved and of his continuing growth as a skilled tradesperson.

Why I Love Volunteering
As a Trainer, I want to help our competitor achieve his goals and more. I believe he chose me to be his Trainer because we developed a good working relationship during our preparations for the Skills competitions. This is the next step. Overall, I think this training opportunity will give me a greater understanding of how I can help the manufacturing sector grow in Canada. I’d like to bring home best practices from professionals around the world.
