UA Canada has renewed their support as Presenting Sponsor of the Skills Canada National Competition in 2016, 2017 and 2018.
OTTAWA, Feb. 17, 2016 /CNW/ – Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC), a not-for-profit organization that actively promotes careers in skilled trades and technologies is proud to announce that UA Canada, an international multi-craft union whose members are engaged in the fabrication, installation and servicing of piping systems will continue their support as Presenting Sponsor of the next three Skills Canada National Competitions beginning with the 2016 Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC) in Moncton, NB.
SCC is pleased to announce that UA Canada has renewed their Presenting level sponsorship for another three years, which will continue the relationship that began in 2012. Their generous support will enable SCC to better promote careers in trades to youth in Canada through this important event.
“Being involved in the Skills Canada National Competition is a great way for industry partners to inform youth of the many opportunities that are available to them in the field of skilled trades. This event also allows partners to connect business to business, associations and educational institutions to raise awareness of these careers,” says Shaun Thorson, Chief Executive Officer of Skills/Compétences Canada.
From June 5-8, 2016, stakeholders and youth will gather in Moncton where over 500 secondary and post secondary students will compete in more than 40 skilled trade and technology areas. SCC is pleased to be working with UA Canada, UA Local325 and UA Local 213 on a sprinkler system demonstration for this year’s competition. SCC will also be working with its Member Organizations to make this an official contest in the future. In addition, UA is an instrumental partner in the steamfitter/pipefitter skill area, which will be an official contest for the first time this year at SCNC.
“UA Canada is pleased to work with Skills Canada again this year to showcase the many careers in the skilled trades that are available to Canadian youth. These sectors are vital in keeping our country’s economy strong. Developing a skilled workforce is becoming increasingly important as there will be a growing demand for skilled workers,” says John Telford, Director Canadian Affairs, UA Canada.
