TransCanada shows its commitment to the skilled trades and technologies as a returning sponsor of Canada’s only national, multi-trade and technology event for skilled trade and technology students and apprentices in Moncton, NB, on June 5-8, 2016.
OTTAWA, Ontario, April 5, 2016 – Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC), a not-for-profit organization that actively promotes careers in skilled trades and technologies is proud to announce that TransCanada is confirmed as a Presenting Sponsor of the 2016 Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC).
SCC is pleased to welcome TransCanada as a Presenting Sponsor for the second consecutive year. The generous support of its Presenting Sponsors enables SCC to better promote careers in skilled trades and technologies through SCNC. TransCanada first participated as a provincial sponsor of Skills Canada in 2007, and has since become a strong supporter of skills competitions across the country.

From June 5-8, 2016, industry, government, labour representatives, educators and youth will gather in Moncton where over 500 secondary and post-secondary students will compete in more than 40 skilled trade and technology contests, in six sectors, including contest areas such as landscape gardening and mobile robotics to welding, aircraft technology, graphic design and hairstyling.
SCNC tests the best and brightest against exacting industry standards configured by a National Technical Committees comprised of skilled trade and technology experts from industry and education. It is an important event that attracts young career-seekers, employers, educators, and industry associations, and helps showcase the many opportunities available in the skilled trade and technology sectors.

Highly skilled tradespeople are key to important pipeline projects such as Energy East – the 4,600-km project that will ship 1.1-million barrels of oil per day from Western Canada to the oil refineries and port terminals of Eastern Canada. Through its donation, TransCanada is proud to contribute to Skills Canada’s efforts to train a new generation of tradespeople, some of whom will go on to work on projects like Energy East.
